Excellent characterization, deft pacing and player agency elevate this short post-apoc yarn to the high-water mark. ‘Cape Cyclone’ hits the right notes in the genre: survival, community and a dash of the epic in getting swept up in things far greater than oneself. Strongly recommended for fans of ‘flooded world’ settings and character-driven post-apoc.

Narrated by the mighty Tacronicus, this is a lighthearted, tongue in cheek romp through the jungle in search of the legendary ape-man. The narrator and characters are aces, the writing sparkles, the puns abound (Marxist Gorillas, anyone?). It even has its own rap. But what makes this stand out even more is the clever use of video clips embedded in challenges and player cards. The amount of work put into this by Tac is astounding, and the whole story deserves to be noticed.

An ambitious new game that features an enormous cast of varied characters. Falls the Shadow is the one to watch whether you love the XCOM theme of humanity fighting back against a superior foe, or the behind the scenes, war-journal feeling from the characters.

A tightly-paced story of a Lovecraftian bent, where six strangers meet at an ostentatious rum-runner’s party and soon find themselves embroiled in a midnight expedition into waters that are full of secrets and dangers beyond man’s understanding. @lobrien’s narration crafts an engaging and vivid world that the players seamlessly interact with, steadily increasing the tension in this 20’s Mythos adventure. Lovecraft is easily done wrong, but this story gets so much right.

This steampunk story incorporates complex characters and deep political intrigue all set in a rich and well-defined world complete with Alchemists, Vampires, and Werewolves. A forbidden act sets the stage for a growing conspiracy which we get to watch from multiple angles. This active group of writers has laid the groundwork for an epic which will be fun to follow as it continues to develop.

Craftily constructed and enthralling to the core,“Best Served Cold” is a shining example of how to execute noir. Unique, well-written characters blend with the narrator’s effortlessly gritty writing style to produce a cornerstone addition to the genre. A must-read for those partial to Not-Quite-Good Guys.

This old school Lovecraftian mystery features a trio of entertainingly odd private investigators who don’t realize what deeper mysteries they may be about to stumble into. The characters and narration are well done, and this works as a great example of a three-act Storium game with quick pacing and well-managed challenges.

Ex Paradisum captivates from the first scene. Come for the intriguing premise (fallen angels must regain their memories and save the world); stay for the diverse cast of characters and achingly beautiful prose. By turns amusing, bittersweet, and transcendent, this is a game to be savored.

With a cast of flawed but sympathetic characters, period-perfect narration and a compelling mystery at its core ‘One Last Adventure’ is a rip-roarin’ good time. This story uses the Storium mechanics incredibly well to showcase both excellent writing and player-narrator collaboration, making it a must-read for anybody looking for a lesson in how to Storium well.

Sanctum is about a small group of people brought together at an isolated sanctuary with no memory of how or why they were brought there. It’s a dark thriller that draws you in as you meet these characters and follow along as they try to make their “escape.” I found myself quickly becoming invested in their survival, and I look forward to seeing how they face the next challenge, and perhaps one day finding out: what is Sanctum? (18+)
