This page lists all “games for beginners,” with the ones currently accepting new players shown first. These games are run by “Mentors” — volunteers who are generously offering their time and expertise to help new users learn how Storium works.
If you're new around here, joining one of these games is a great way to learn the ropes. There’s no pressure or expectations, nor is there any long-term commitment. Just join up and play for as long as you need to!
Note: if you’re a free Storium user, these games do not count against your 3-game limit. So dive in!

Ready for high adventure, fantasy, spells, and a fair bit of horror mixed in? Then you have come to the right place!
I have some basic outlines for events that can occur in each chapter and basic structures in place for each plot- but I am looking forward to your input as well. My personal writing style has always been to leave the larger world an open canvass that characters and events reveal overtime. You are welcome to input cannon wherever you see fit as long as it does not conflict with other writer’s characters or the chapter’s story.
It is important to note that each chapter is completely UNIQUE. The individual stories and adventures do not continue from one chapter to the next. New chapter, new adventure so if you are coming in at a new chapter expect it to be a fresh and brand new experience rather than the continuation of any ongoing story. On the flip side, also note that your story will have a definitive end which can be a good thing on Storium!
Existing characters may be able to move forward from time to time or appear in another chapter, although for the most part, this is a one chapter writing experience for each team of writers.
Our story begins . . . where you enter! Participate and be active in commentary. If you want a sense of the writing style/story style read the previous chapters. Although I like to keep adventure companions intact for the most part, characters can be added and also removed (die).
I have tried to operate with a 48-72 hour policy, which does not necessarily mean a move is required, however a comment or response to a PM may be. A writer who does not respond after multiple days may have their character ‘killed’ and/or retied in some other way in the story. This is not a hard fast rule, but out of respect for the other writers I will enforce it from time to time if things get too slow.
Please note this going in -
My narration style is distinct, and I try mix some heavily controlled scenes with some wide open scenes which are more character controlled. Also, at times I can put real pressure on a scene with harsh/fatal consequences. Although this sounds brutal, I try to keep a balance between fun and game-like peril in the story. I have felt that this has challenged some characters and made for some really great writing out of our groups, which has been awesome. Read previous chapters and commentary to get a feel for what I am talking about.
One final note: I receive regular comments like “does this character look like it will work for your story?” and “Does this fit what you are looking for?” . . . I am looking for something mildly familiar as Fantasy - so unless you try to throw a 35 foot Gundam style robot, hard nosed gumshoe with a .45, or a 3rd generation prince from the Andromeda galaxy at me, I will probably approve the character. I don’t mind if a crew is balanced or unbalance, uniform or wildly diverse, goblin, man, beast, or dragon . . . as long as you don’t try to go godlike omnipotence I am ok with it. Mary Sues and characters who show similar traits tend to run into trouble in my stories . . .
So, go ahead and write the character you would have the most fun playing in the story and submit with complete abandon.
That is it folks! I look forward to writing with any and all who feel like participating here!

You are adventurers looking to make a quick coin or perhaps help the weak - what fortune will you find with sword or spell?
This game is intended for first-time players to familiarise themselves with the Storium format and hopefully have some fun along the way. This is not intended to be a long-running game for the same characters; once players have been through an entire chapter they will be retired to make room for new players.
Feel free to use pre-made nature/strength/weakness cards or make up your own. Please note you won’t be able to change those cards (except through gameplay) once you’re accepted so be sure of your choices before you submit! All characters from complete beginners will be accepted, though you may have to wait until a new scene begins before you can get writing. This game is intended for people with little to no Storium experience at all; more experienced players will be accepted based on availability and suitability.
I will run episodic adventures to accommodate players coming and going - feel free to retire your characters at the end of any scene if you’re ready to move on.
Any questions? Contact me by email (on my profile) or in comments! I look forward to narrating for you all. :)
