This page lists all “games for beginners,” with the ones currently accepting new players shown first. These games are run by “Mentors” — volunteers who are generously offering their time and expertise to help new users learn how Storium works.
If you're new around here, joining one of these games is a great way to learn the ropes. There’s no pressure or expectations, nor is there any long-term commitment. Just join up and play for as long as you need to!
Note: if you’re a free Storium user, these games do not count against your 3-game limit. So dive in!

A fully inclusive sci-fi game for Newcomers (and anyone else who wants to join in).
Be any character you like appropriate to a sci-fi environment. There are some character cards to give you an idea, but you are free to make your own. My one request - don’t make them too wacky or too powerful. They are not as much fun as you’d expect.
Its easy to join or leave as you wish. The idea is each character has solo adventures at first, maybe meeting other PCs later. This way, you are free to join mid-game and move at your own pace.
A terrible disease had broken out amidst many space colonies.
The solution had been to send characters far out in pods - far away from each other. Those who succumbed would remain in their pods and not spread the virus. Those who were still well after the quarantine period were allowed out, where they would explore where-ever they were, looking for a place to live, resources - and seeking in due course to meet up with other survivors…

They called it the ship of dreams….
No, we are not re-making the movie!
Although, the movie made a pretty good fist of putting us in mind of the variety of characters aboard that boat.
Become any character you think may have been on the Titanic (and it’s a broad list!) and let’s see how they get on.
(Spoiler: it’s going to sink)

This game is presented as a chance for people new to Storium to get to grips with things and ask questions, as they find their way to additional games. You might see this to the end, or it would be acceptable to leave once you are established.
You have the chance - but not the obligation - to have a go at narrating, as well.
As with all my games, this is fully inclusive.
The Emperor had new clothes. Take the old ones to the incinerator, he said. Such sad rags should not be associated with me.
So his footman did take them down to the incinerator.
Except at the incinerator, they said that would be a waste. Take them to the Royal Housekeeper to make them into blankets for the widows and orphans of the city.
So the incinerator sweeper did just that and went to the Housekeepers assistant.
But the Housekeeper’s assistant had a better idea. Those clothes would not make good blankets, and they are worth more intact. So sell them, and the money can be used to buy more, better things for the poor.
So they were taken to the Master of the Robes, who passed them to the Footwoman, with instructions to get a good price for them. She sold them to a merchant for a bag of gold.
That merchant took them out of town, seeking a great price from the nobility.
Now the Emperor has nothing to wear for the banquet tonight. So he has sent his messenger to the incinerator, charged with being sure to run and get there before it is too late. On pain of death.
As I say, now we are all in trouble.

Tinselfall: A Most Peculiar Advent |
|
| View Game |
It’s Christmas!
All is well in Tinselfall.
It could almost be a Hallmark family movie…
A sleepy Hallmark-perfect Christmas town finds itself locked inside a “story bubble”—a reality behaving exactly like a cheesy holiday movie.
Players can be villains trapped in a world that won’t let them be villainous, peaceful townsfolk who sense something is “off,” or interlopers with their own goals.
At first everything is wholesome and saccharine… but each day of Advent introduces a fissure. The movie’s invisible rules start to glitch. Festive perfection begins slipping into uncanny weirdness, then full-on horror—zombies, elves, malfunctioning tropes—before swinging wildly back toward heartwarming resolutions.
The town must survive the loop, discover who is controlling the script, and restore Christmas before the story collapses.
You can play a (would-be) villain, or perhaps just someone new to town with an enquiring mind. You could even be a Christmas elf, if you wanted…
What you will find in this world is that… everything leans towards a sweet, wholesome Christmas. Want to do something devious? You find it all just adds to the greater good. Wandering down the street with big pointy ears and green skin? No-one notices a thing….
How can I put this…Imagine Last Action Hero, where some things are just inevitable due to the genre of the movie you’re in. Think WandaVision, where everything seems so idyllic… until you being to think its a bit… off

Sibling Warfare |
|
| View Game |
Modern day. Focus on writing story, especially witty banter, character development and backstory.
Every day is the same.
You get home, your jealous siblings have a pop at you. Asking where you have been. Accusing you of being involved in the latest scandal.
But you’re on top of it now. Each evening you come up with a ridiculous story to explain circumstances, wind them up, lay a false trail…take them down.
I would want any player to tell me if I need to adjust to increase their access or inclusion.
All my games are fully inclusive
This story is constructed for just one scene. We can have all the usual enthusiasm of building our characters and starting the game, and tell our tale in one scene.
Of course, if things go well we can add in a second or even a third scene.
The story explores the themes of creativity, humour, sibling relationships, and controlling behaviour.

The Corner Not Turned |
|
| View Game |
Modern day with mood of the past - focus on writing story, especially character development and backstory. Mystery.
In this game, you create a rounded character with a past. I have not put up any cards - you are free to make your own from scratch. Feel free to reach out for help.
This is what happens. Your character turns a corner they have never explored before, and finds themselves in a quaint village. You have a choice - you can either stay at the local inn/hotel as a visitor, or you find a home / suitable small shop that feels like you belong to it, and immediately you feel you have belonged there for ever; but at the same time, you are finding out about the other characters.
The story then unfolds as you reveal your character’s back-story, but also interact with other characters (PCs and NPCs) to reveal theirs.
As narrator, I provide the setting, some NPCs and the prompts, and I keep the whole thing going. But in terms of building your back story - that is all for you!
This is a good way to explore Storium, and I will help as much as you need. Bear in mind though; every story is different, every game, every narrator, every group of players. This will give you a start on how the site technically works, but it is only one glimpse of all the way that system can be, and is, used!
This story is constructed for just one scene. We can have all the usual enthusiasm of building our characters and starting the game, and tell our tale in one scene.

Join them, as a tactician, specialist, investigator or warrior! (Or scientist, diplomat…)
You are keen for adventure, and this ship offers the opportunity to get out there and explore the Universe.
And now more than ever - the 𝕊𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕚𝕕𝕖𝕣 has exposed a threat from another galaxy using advanced travel technology - pirates are crossing over. And what once looked like mere criminally is starting to look like a much bigger invasion threat…
This is a sequel to previous adventures, but you do not need to read the earlier games or have knowledge of them. Everything you need will be within the narratives and challenges. No homework, I promise.
Cypreece, a cyborg freedom fighter of some renown, is determined to seek out the wicked and corrupt where-ever he finds them.
And right now he has assembled a crew that is good at finding trouble… and sometimes getting out of it.
They have a powerful starship, and an assortment of fighter craft.
Officially you are after the rogue ships. But sometimes to really bring justice you need to go after the rogue lawyers, the corrupt politicians, the faces behind the faceless corporations….
Our heroes have their sights on space pirates… but now they seem to have found interlopers from another dimension, or at least another Galaxy… this could be their most dangerous mission yet…

The Two Tone Ghost |

Modern day with mood of the past - focus on writing story, especially character development and backstory. Mystery.
All my games are fully inclusive
When a struggling musician purchases a second-hand synth keyboard, they discover an unusual feature. In addition to all the normal voices and mods, a dedicated switch gives the ability to alternate between two different sound settings; a bright and cheerful one, and a haunting, eerie one. Intrigued by the instrument’s unique capability, they decide to incorporate the dual-tone into their music, hoping it will help them stand out in the competitive industry.
However, things start to get weird when they begin to hear strange noises and experience unexplainable glitches during rehearsals. As they delve deeper into the mysterious keyboard’s history, they realise the instrument might have a sinister past. Research leads to the discovery that a previous owner, a music composer named Adam, had died under mysterious circumstances.
They begin to suspect there might be a literal ghost in the machine, as they continue to experience paranormal activity and strange occurrences. With the help of tech-savvy friends, they attempt to unravel the mystery of the two-tone ghost…
As they get closer to the truth, they find themselves in danger, and must use their musical skills to confront a malevolent spirit…

No established canon to worry about. Drop in any time.
Characters are be student spell-users learning their art, and in particular how to handle their dragons at a specialist University!
The University usually takes students in their mid-teens but no real age limits on characters.

I quite often do a game for Lent but this year I want to try something different.
I’m throwing this game open as a sort of chat room where people can post whatever thoughts they like and others can respond. I will be putting up some thoughts of my own periodically.
