GHOSTBREAKERS LTD.

A comedy‑horror story‑game for anyone brave enough to start a paranormal small business
Strange things are happening in the city.

Lights flicker.
Mirrors twitch.
Old toys move when no one’s looking.
And somewhere in the dark, something is laughing — loudly, theatrically, and far too close.

You and your fellow Ghostbreakers have just opened shop.
Second‑hand equipment.
A rented van.
A business plan written on the back of a takeaway menu.
But the calls are already coming in… and they’re getting weirder by the day.

Hauntings aren’t isolated anymore.
They’re coordinated.
Something powerful is pushing through from the other side, sending all manner of mischief into the world — rattling spirits, dripping horrors, grinning floaters, and things that should absolutely not be climbing out of the plumbing.

Someone wants attention.

Someone wants an audience.

It’s up to you to investigate the disturbances, wrangle the nasties, and stop whatever’s trying to break through the veil before the whole city becomes a stage for a very dangerous performance.

Grab your gear.
Start the van.
And try not to scream louder than your clients.

Welcome to Ghostbreakers Ltd.
Business is about to get… lively.

ASCENDANT: SHADOWS OF THE MAKER

(Open to all players — no prior knowledge required.)

Something strange is happening in the city.

New superpowered individuals are appearing — not born with gifts, not triggered by trauma, but made.
Engineered. Manufactured.
And whoever is behind it is getting bolder.

Rumours spread of a hidden facility somewhere beneath the industrial district.
Of missing people returning with impossible abilities.
Of a mysterious benefactor funding experiments no one will admit exist.

The authorities are overwhelmed.
The public is terrified.
And the heroes — established or brand new — are the only ones willing to step into the shadows and uncover the truth.

In this story‑game, you’ll play a hero standing at the edge of a conspiracy that could reshape the world.
You’ll face unstable supers, corrupted science, and a threat that grows smarter every time you survive it.

You don’t need to have played the previous arc.

All you need is a character, a spark of courage, and the willingness to ask one question:

If someone out there is making supers…

what do they want to make next?

In this game we are not overly obsessed with canon.

You can adopt a known character, or create your own.

We will build the game together.

Many Storium games slow down after the first couple of scenes…. this game is designed to be 2-3 scenes long, with the opportunity to continue in a sequel for those who wish to…

For this story, we are especially encouraging players to develop the interaction and teambuilding between characters.

This story is a sequel … but you will be told everything you need to know if you are joining fresh…

The classmen and women of Posh university in the Northeast have long enjoyed their yacht race and it is a time-honored tradition for the past 175 years.

However, cuts to the fraternities and sororities has meant that the university has had to cut funding to extracurriculars over the semester and it looks like the race is going to be canceled. Jobs are hard to come by and there simply isn’t enough at burger joints and stores to get the needed funds.

However, there is a statewide battle of the bands with a fifty-thousand-dollar prize that will put the Ivy League school well over the threshold to have their precious tradition, and after all, those rockers and musicians don’t have the world-class educations in the arts like the students and faculty of Posh U do, so how hard can winning the contest be?

This is a humor game that has a bunch of no-nothing know-it-alls and their friends competing in a battle of the bands. I want to sort of channel snob-mocking humor here, but in a generally nice way, more akin to maybe something like “Frasier” or similar programs.

The is going to be a short story, probably 4 scenes and it is meant to be a humor game.

Rattling Bones is seeking extra hands. Of help behind the bar, that is. Though we won’t say no to the offered appendage.

Welcome to the Rattling Bones, friends. Battling foes in the dungeons is hard work, even harder when ye be a skeleton or ghostie defending your treasures. Come stop by for a nice mug o’ ale, or a fine crackling fire to warm your bones by. Take a break from dealing with those adventuring numbskulls and unwind. Why, if ye be looking for a little extra coin on the side, we’ve got just the job for you. Be warned, though: sometimes we too must deal with the occasional vagabond or noble fool who stumbles in on the wrong side of the dungeon. Most of the time, however, we face no trouble, save from the occasional ornery lich. Come relax, and raise a mug to the undead!

High in the spine of the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca, where mist clings to the cliffs long after the sun has risen, there are trails that do not appear on any map. Locals in the nearby village of San José del Pacífico speak of them sparingly—paths that shift, stones that hum faintly beneath your feet, and a place in the mountains where the earth seems to remember something it was never meant to keep.

The tomb was not discovered so much as it was revealed.

It happened after a storm—one of those sudden, violent mountain storms that split the sky and sent loose rock cascading down the slopes. When the clouds cleared, a section of the mountainside had collapsed, exposing a dark, geometric wound in the earth. Not a cave. Not natural. The edges were too precise, too deliberate—cut stone, smoothed by hands that had long since turned to dust.

No one in the village claimed to know who built it.

That was the first warning.

The second was the silence.

Birds avoided the place. Wind seemed to bend around it. Even the insects, relentless in every other corner of the mountain, refused to cross the threshold. It was as if the tomb existed slightly outside the rhythm of the world—present, but not entirely here.

By the time word reached outsiders, the story had already begun to change.

Some said the tomb belonged to a forgotten branch of the Zapotec civilization, buried before their history was ever written. Others insisted it was older—older than the pyramids, older than language, something carved by a people who did not survive long enough to be remembered.

And then there were the whispers that didn’t sound like history at all.

They said the tomb was not built to house the dead.

It was built to contain something that refused to die.

The entrance sloped downward at an unnatural angle, as though the mountain itself had been hollowed out with purpose. Symbols lined the interior walls—intricate, spiraling carvings that seemed almost familiar until you looked too closely. Then they shifted, subtly, as if your mind could not quite hold onto their shape.

Those who stepped inside reported the same thing:

Time did not behave correctly.

A minute stretched into hours. Or vanished entirely. Footsteps echoed before they were taken. Voices whispered in languages no one could identify—and sometimes, disturbingly, in voices that sounded like their own.

And deeper still, beyond the first chamber where light could still reach, there was something else.

Not a creature.

Not exactly.

A presence. Watching. Waiting. Patient in a way that felt ancient and deliberate, as if it had been expecting someone to return.

Because that was the final rumor—the one no one liked to repeat.

The tomb did not call to everyone.

Only to certain people.

People who, upon standing at its entrance, felt something impossible settle into their bones—not fear, not curiosity, but recognition.

As if they had been there before.

As if, somehow, they had never truly left.

The Sea of Opalescent Dreams

Its cities rise from coral cliffs and moonlit harbors. Silk banners snap in the salt wind above towering palaces, and the names of queens are spoken with holy reverence. Here, women are raised to rule, conquer, and command. They captain warships, settle disputes with steel in hand, and earn glory through courage and strength.

Men, meanwhile, are taught an entirely different purpose.

They are expected to be beautiful rather than powerful. Gentle rather than fierce. They tend the hearths, raise children, compose music, weave delicate art, and devote themselves to pleasing the women they serve. A man’s worth is measured by grace, obedience, charm, and refinement—not ambition. Scars upon a woman are signs of honor. Scars upon a man are considered tragedy.

Magic itself bends to these roles.

Women wield powers tied to dominance, warfare, leadership, and protection. Men channel subtler magic—beauty, emotion, healing, dreams, seduction, memory, and prophecy. From birth, every citizen is shaped by the expectations of the sea-born Queendom.

But what happens when someone is born wrong for the role they were given?

What happens when a woman fears violence instead of craving it? When a man longs to wield a sword instead of a harp? When desire becomes rebellion?

And what happens when two souls—each trapped inside lives they cannot bear—fall into an impossible, ill-fated love?

In a world where identity is sacred law, betrayal of one’s role is more dangerous than treason.

Because the sea remembers.
And dreams always demand a price.

PG-13 Romance Fantasy

For each character, describe:

1) What is your character’s identified role within the gender constructs of this fantasy society?

Are they respected within that role, or are they secretly breaking the mold? Do they embrace the expectations placed upon them—or resent them?

2) You are hiding something, but it is slowly poisoning your life.

What is the secret? A forbidden love? A forbidden talent? Cowardice? Rage? A crime? A truth about your identity? Why can’t anyone discover it?

3) In this world, magic is tied to the societal role your character identifies with.

What power do they possess?
Is it feared? Revered? Beautiful? Destructive? And what does their magic reveal about who they truly are beneath the role they perform?
