Intriguing story. PHENOMENAL players. We are halfway through, which means we’ve hit the point where things get real interesting.
Please read the following few paragraphs. If you are interested in taking this character over, let me know and I will send you 2-3 scenes to read which will give you the gist of character/story vibe/direction. It isn’t necessary to read the story in entirety.
Story Thus Far
Valance is known for three things: holy devotion, honored military, and Valancian steel. Captain Josen Langehorne, son of the controversially murdered First Commander, arrived home one day to find his wife murdered, his squire age son nowhere in sight. By the consent of his king, he and his Lieutenant/best friend have hand selected a specialized unit for a rigorous manhunt to locate his son.
They followed the trail south, where they became set upon by a brute force of mercenaries known as the Red Tabbard, collectively hired by several southern settlements and towns to protect them from, well, them. Turns out that Valancian soldiers, or someone imitating them, have been stealing the boys and young men of the south.
Shortly after this discovery is made, a new, darker one is uncovered. An ancient foe defeated ages ago seems to have resurfaced. With him is the re-arrival of magic, a taint that has been purged and unlawful for as long as anyone can remember.
Yuri Avilov
Is a skillful and renowned archer of the north, a foreigner among the now blended unit of Valancians and Red Tabbards. He shares a tentative alliance – and secret – with Carys, a young headstrong girl coming of age. Only the two of them know of the glowing, royal mark beneath his tunic. Neither know what it means. What would you do to save another man’s son? Beat someone? Lop a finger away for the right information? A toe or three? Or perhaps you’re the man turning your cheek. Maybe you don’t care; the boy is just a paycheck and a spoiled rich kid, besides. Maybe you’re not at all who you think you are.
The First Commander, dead. Not from honorable combat but a shocking barroom battle. Second commander Beaufort and a dozen of his men have been arrested for his murder. With fingers pointing every direction and witnesses implausible, Beaufort was freed after trial - then found dead, a mile beyond ciry walls. Many suspects, no arrests.
Time grudgingly continued. A season passed. Two. As the accusations chasing his back finally began to fade with fall’s leaves, Josen Langehorne hurried home one day to find his wife’s blood spilled upon floor, her a beautiful and lifeless petal atop. His son, almost arms age, nowhere to be found.
YOU are part of a hand selected unit to find him. You will bring him home. Safe. Your assignment begins with a short and swift journey to Edgeport where you will track and question your most promising lead. But hurry! Already, you’ve lost two precious days.

Characters will be among a unit of around 15 men. You will be led by Captain Langehorne and his Lieutenant. Story tone is dark, medieval grit with possible fantasy undertones.
As narrator, I will ABSOLUTELY stretch your character beyond personal and ethical boundaries. There will be graphical violence and immoral scenarios. To withstand this, character creation cannot be a slap on paper. I expect well thought out, breathing ideas who have experienced worthy, notable lives.
This will be a fictional setting that borrows from the tone/style of Europe after the Protestant Reformation. Church and state are almost of equal power, both religion and societal tensions are playing tug-a-war, doctors tend to kill people rather than heal, and superstition runs rampant. Territories are broken down into cities/towns instead of complicated fiefdoms/duchies.
