The shadows of the city are carved up between the fae, vampires, werewolves, wizards, and more. The Movable Court has kept things in tenuous balance for almost a century, but now the Mirrored Prince (one of the four great faction rulers) has been murdered. Further, mysterious messages delivered to each faction promise two more Princes will fall (leaving just one alive, presumably).
Now each of the factions has closed ranks, suspecting one of the other factions to be behind a power grab. But others believe something more sinister is at work.
You are the Jacks — a mix of supernatural police, trouble-shooters, and diplomats — appointed by the Movable Court to investigate the murder of the Mirrored Prince, to prevent the threatened murders of two more Princes, and to bring retribution down on the guilty.
You are in a unique situation. You may be personally powerful, or you may be a relative nobody. How and why you were appointed is a secret you are sworn not to tell (and may not know yourself). Yet your position gives you a great deal of political power. You can make proclamations that cannot be denied or circumvented by any of the factions. Further none may openly refuse your requests as they relate to your investigation. However, make sure you can back up your claims and demands, because after your tasks are complete and your temporary status as Jack is revoked, you’re on your own and immortal monsters have long memories.
This game will have a serious tone, though occasional humor is fine. It will tend towards a dark tone, but not excessively. The story is ultimately more about you, the Jacks, than about the factions or even the murders. Each of you is wounded or cursed in some way, whether physically, psychologically, or mystically. You have no idea yet why that’s the case, but over the course of the story addressing your wounds and changing (whether for the better or the worse) will be central to the story.
This is all of our first forays into Storium, so let’s start slow and easy util we get the hang of it.
