The best any of them can say is that they get paid an almost fair wage and don’t get exploited too badly by the company making credits off their labour. There are places where that’s true, even on a poorly-regulated corporate haven like Ikarus.
You should know. You used to work for one of them.
Sadly for you, since the CEO went on a voyage across the galaxy and his mean, profit-obsessed brother stepped into his shoes, Angevin Enterprises just isn’t the company it used to be. Corners are cut, along with jobs and wages. Risks are taken, and if they don’t come off, the powerless workers feel the consquences.
It’s an old, old story. The hired hands do the work and suffer the hardships, while the owners swoop in at the end to take the lion’s share of the profits.
But there are other old stories, and not all of them end well for the masters. Because even the downtrodden will only take so much before they turn on their oppressors. Because desperate people with nothing left to lose are often the most dangerous.
And because, if you’re going to steal from the rich to give to the poor, Ashirek City has a hell of a lot of poor to choose from…
