The World
The Freeze was a mystery that wrapped around the world and smothered it in a cold blanket of white. In the mid 2040s humanity was celebrating coming back from the brink of ecological destruction due to the discovery of new green energy sources and one central break though in battery technology. In the minds of humanity with the end of fossil fuels a new golden age of humanity would be soon to follow and maybe it would have before the temperatures started to drop.
At first the drop in global temperatures was almost a welcome site after decades of record breaking highs. However, after enjoying those first few white winters’ things quickly began to spiral out of control. After the first few years temperatures’ started to plummet month to month, then week, to week, then day by day.
It didn’t take long for things to start to collapse as ice caps started to form off the coast of Florida and snow drifts over took the Middle East. The cold was unexplained and soon no one was left with the ability to even try as nations started to collapse under the weight of trying to manage this icy apocalypse.
In those days as the temperatures dropped faster and faster each day most people expected it to never stop. The world would simply freeze over with all life on it turned to ice. It did stop though, leaving average global temperatures just below zero. In those chaotic years of The Freeze, many died if not from the cold then from each other as everyone was just trying to survive.
It has been 30 years since The Freeze and those that were left have done their best to pick up the pieces left behind. New nations have risen up from the frozen wastes and continue were the old ones left off, trying to carve up the world to best suit their needs. Most of the frozen earth is still wild with small and large towns doing their best to claim their own small part of the world just to get by.
The Situation
A harsh gust of icy wind blows over the large trading town of Argo. The chill cuts through you even as you find yourself pushing though a mass of people crowded in the town square. The town has found itself caught in the middle of war between two major factions.
The forces of the Republic and that of the Confederacy nearly surround the town; which to this point has been able to stay neutral ground. The situation has been terrible for the town as its hit by stray ordnance from time to time and travel on the roads in and out of town has become so dangerous trade is nearly at a standstill.
The Mayor is getting desperate to finally resolve this situation and is putting out the call to any able bodied persons to help put an end to this standoff that is slowly killing his town.
Notes
1) No characters past 45 years old, if your character was born before The Freeze they wouldn’t have been any older than 15 when it happened.
2) It is the future, but tech really stopped advancing around the start of 2040 and most of that isn’t going to be working all that well since it hasn’t had properly maintained for 30 years.
