The Mortal Enquiries Department in Purgatory is a 40 storey building that sits in Purgatory. A stream of spirits are always entering and leaving, as it is the only way they can know about the people that they know who are still alive.
If a spirit wanders into the Mortal Enquiries building in Purgatory, either by accident or with a purpose, they will find a bustling building full of other spirits working in there. At this point many will just leave, or walk up to one of the many reception stalls, to ask about their still living relatives.
But on rare occasions, a spirit that actually belongs in Purgatory will enter, but also mostly by accident. However, not you. Either as a way to lighten your sentence in Hell or the fact you had a perfectly balanced scale of sin and virtue when you died, so now you are in Purgatory, the administrative part of the afterlife, and have been instructed to work for this department. The note in your hands instructs you to go to the 34th floor of the building, and to find someone called Aster.
Not knowing anything else to do here, you enter one of the marble elevators and punch in the 34 button.
