(An homage to Villains by Necessity)
At the dawn of time the Twin Godesses were born. One was Kaedrith, Goddess of Light and Order, matched equally in power by her dread sister Maelevon, Goddess of Darkness and Chaos. The struggle between the Twins formed the basis of an eternal war that shaped all of creation and shook the very heavens. Continents rose and fell, aeons were defined and forgotten, but Kaedrith and Maelevon raged ever on, their divine fury matched only by their determination to see the other destroyed.
Then, almost one hundred years ago, the greatest band of heroes ever formed charged into the dark planar fortress of Maelevon and struck her down, ending her reign of darkness.
Church bells peeled with ecstasy. Crowds gathered in the streets and lined the paths to the temples with petals. Highborn and beggars alike went to their knees and wept with joy, praising Kaedrith’s merciful light.
Things got better. For a time.
But the great seer Otara has glimpsed into the future and the terror it holds. Without balance, without darkness, the world will grow static and die, calcifying into a cruel mockery of life as the mortal world is pulled ever closer into the celestial plane of order. Soon creation itself will turn on its head, frozen in an endless daylight that will bleach the soil and make all living things as statues.
Unless someone can bring the darkness back. Unless someone can bring the forces of order to heel. Unless some infamous villain can rise up and strike down the eternal sun, sending Kaedrith to the same oblivion that took her dark sister.
But the great seer Otara couldn’t find an infamous villain to do these things. Otara found you. And unless you can rise to the occasion, in six days the Great Conjunction will freeze the world in stasis forever.
It’s time to be a villain.
