Dawn was normally the herald of good things. When the first rays of light hit the world, it was the start of another day. New beginnings, a fresh start, an early morning to rise and shine.
Not so on this day.
The jungle foliage was thick, and the small clearing was almost invisible to anyone looking at it from the outside. It was just a small patch of ground surrounded by bushes, but it was good enough for some respite. She slumped against a tree trunk, head lolling to one side. One would almost think she was dozing, but then she stirred fretfully. Her dreams were vague and grey, but in her mind’s eye she could still see the figure that loomed above her. His mocking laughter still echoed around her as she looked for an escape that could not be found.
But who was he, and why was he here?
And how could she get away?
