“Yet another massacre brought to us by the Protean Killer has left the Central Miami Police Station a devastated wreck, and has left the entire department grossly understaffed, and hopelessly unable to keep up with the rocketing crime rate in virtually all districts in the Miami area… now onto sports…”
………
The Protean Killer, so named for his (or perhaps her) habit of wearing a different mask for every massacre, as well as a different outfit to go with it, and sometimes even seeming to have an entirely different body type, has been going on a killing spree throughout all of Miami, Florida lately, leaving a bloody swathe of destruction and corpses behind. The only connection behind these deaths are the masked figure, and the utterly brutal and cruel means of execution that the victims have suffered. Several of the victims have been from among the supernatural community, two nobody tantric witches posing as prostitutes, a homeless werewolf, even a vampire Primogen running a criminal empire… and most important to our Motley, several Changelings from various walks of life.
That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, this story is a crossover of Changeling: The Lost by White Wolf, and Hotline Miami. Its a dark, gritty tale with plenty of blood and murder and mayhem in store, set in the backdrop of the glitzy, glamorous, drug-filled, and sexy Magic City. This story is also a story of supernatural politics, scheming, wheeling and dealing, the whole bit. Whether you are a member of the Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter Court (or unaligned), you’re jockeying for a position as the MC, the arbiter of all fae justice and politics in this story, has called upon all Changelings to solve this case before the murderer can strike again.
I’m looking for fairly active players, who are willing to post at least once a day, and are willing to sometimes make posts without using cards… i.e. more character interaction than one might be used to. You don’t need to know anything about Changeling The Lost or Hotline Miami, but it’ll help. As for how I’ll be attempting to translate some of the mechanics from Changeling… well… read the google doc.
For character creation, I’d recommend picking your cards first, then looking over the information in the google doc as is relevant to your character before writing your character’s bio. That way, you only need to read the information on the Seeming and Kith you have chosen, and as for Contracts… well, don’t worry about those yet. Read those when I hand them out at the beginning of the game as assets.
So yes, you MUST choose one of the natures I have provided. Not unless you can make a very compelling case for a custom nature. Feel free to make up your own strengths and weaknesses, but I have already provided plenty, so there’s probably something in there that might catch your eye. As for subplots, I encourage you to come up with your own, as I only came up with a few examples of what might work in this setting, but by all means go ahead and use one of the ones I provided if it appeals to you.
Also, take note of the cards with arrows on them, if there’s an arrow, click on it, because there is very likely bold text that I couldn’t fit on the first page. This bold text is meant to help you create a more compelling character, or to indicate something I’m experimenting with that I think will make for a more interesting game.
If you have any questions, you can reach me at jakw08@verizon.net Just put Lost Hotline in the subject. Thank you.
Oh, as for how many players… I’m looking to make this feel like an ebbing and flowing metropolis, so even after I get the initial Motley of 8 that I’m looking for… I’m going to keep recruitment open in case someone stumbles across it or one of the people that gets in can recommend someone new. Also, because of the inherent weirdness of the setting, even if your character dies, you are not necessarily out of the game. Just be patient and see what weird shit we get up to.
Lastly, when you do write up your character’s bio, I would prefer something of a writing sample to a standard description. Why? Well, for one it gives me a better idea of what to expect from my players, and more to the point, it puts you more in the head of your character. It should be a short little tale, perhaps framed as a fairy tale, about your character, something they have done since escaping from Faerie, something that gives a clear sense of who they are. Anything is fine there, except for how your character attains Glamour… that will be saved for later.
And it also prevents you from trying to tell me your character’s entire life story, something that does not quite fit this setting. In Changeling, your character’s memories are scattered and difficult to access, whether those of Faerie or your old life. You may remember moments, and key names and faces that were important to you… but you may not necessarily remember every detail. A lot has happened, and you have changed a lot during this time.

One last note: your character’s avatar should be of their human self. Not their Fae Mein. The latter should be hinted at in the story, leaving much to the imagination. Thank you.
