From the moment that the ashes of the Great War finally settled, the Egypt Exploration Society of London dreamed of returning to their calling. Now it is 1921 and the Society has begun to send archaeologists back to the Nile, a great bounty awaiting them now that many of their German and French rivals have been bankrupted by the continental conflict.
You are one of the members of this first return expedition, having elbowed aside several senior and better-financed Society members to have your chance at touching history. While Amarna is certainly not as glamorous as Luxor or Giza, there are enough untouched relics for you to make a famous discovery.
At any rate, you’re going to have better luck out there amidst the forgotten temples and lonely dunes than you will at the dingy hookah bar in town, where the locals are all too eager to fill the heads of gullible foreigners with tales of a dread criminal from antiquity who brought the wrath of the gods down upon Egypt. What’s even worse is when the hired hands try to use those old ghost stories to frighten the few women present in an obvious ploy to disarm their good sense. Clearly such rough men cannot be trusted around ladies of virtue.
