Kiyoshi, Roku, Aang, Korra… the names of previous Avatars from a long bygone era. All great heroes in their own right… all of them remembered only as myths. Hell, in the current age of chrome and bio-mods, Matrix-benders (or “Deckers” as they generally prefer) and Spirits running wild… and above all… in this age where Great Wyrms run the world from their board rooms and secretive pow-wows… nothing is sacred anymore. The Avatar, the one person who could not only control all four elements AND connect the mortal realm to the spirit world… if such a being ever truly existed, their cycle is long gone now.
In this modern era, the only true heroes left are career criminals, who spend their lives running in the shadows, pulling job after job… and occasionally doing some good in the process… if they care to.
Yep. This is a crossover between the tabletop rpg, Shadowrun… a world where high tech meets high magic…
and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The tv series, not the movie. Umm… while I am going to try to keep this newbie-friendly (especially since I’m playing fast and loose with both settings and how I’m merging them)… here are some links to each franchise’s respective TV Tropes page… to help give you a general idea of what to expect.
Shadowrun: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TabletopGame/Shadowrun
Avatar: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender
Oh, for obvious balancing issues… no one can be the Avatar.
Further notes…
Here is a link on Shadowrun Totems for those interested in playing a Shaman: http://albinognomghul.de/totems.htm
The key with what powers your totem grant you won’t rely too much on established Shadowrun mechanics… so much as the Totem’s personality, and what makes the most sense… as well as how highly they favor you at the moment.
Some important notes on Character Creation
First, you will need to write your own strengths, weaknesses, and subplots.
Child or young teen characters are okay… but you are supposed to be experienced Shadowrunners… and ones that are somehow important enough to be captured alive.
So with that in mind… I would like you to fill out your character sheet as though it were a file that a nameless corporation or some other powerful entity were keeping on you. Aside from a few questions that you need to answer… its a straightforward enough bio.
Anyway…
Subject Name:
Age:
Date of Birth: (Note, with appropriate explanation, this need not necessarily line up with your character’s age)
Subject Capabilities: (This is where you tell me what makes your character unique among whatever nature you choose… be prepared though, I may ask for revisions on this point if things seem a little crazy, or inconsistent with established lore.)
Totem: (If a Shaman, if not, simply write N/A)
Cybernetic/Biotech Implants:(Describe any cybernetic or biotech implants you may have and what their function is… again, I may ask for revisions here, so be prepared for that)
Crimes: (this is where you list all known crimes that have been tied to your character… at least one of which is the one you were captured for)
Height: (in feet and inches please)
Weight: (in pounds please)
Eye Color:
Distinguishing Marks: (Tattooes, obvious cybernetics, scars, distinctive hairstyle, etc.)
Preferred Weaponry: (whatever tools of the trade you use, list them here… whether gun, blade, martial arts, bending, or whatever else you can think of… feel free to go crazy here, as this will be about the heavily customized and all around awesome gear that you’ve gotten after years of making your fortune as a Shadowrunner, but note that you WILL NOT be starting off with any of this stuff. You’ve been captured at the start of the story, and all of your gear has been confiscated… your… employers might return it to you later, depending on your attitude and… usefulness)
History: (this is what the company knows of your life up to this point, there is some freedom to exclude some bits of information, but remember, any bit of information that a corporation would want to know, it can very easily get if it decides that said info is worth getting. So if you choose to exclude something and keep it as a surprise later… think of how you could plausibly keep it hidden from a corporation, and/or why it wouldn’t interest them enough to dig too deep into it)
One last note on character creation… when making your own strengths, DO NOT write in abilities or gear… your strength card is a personality trait that helps them through a lot of situations… it informs how they solve problems… how they are at their best.
Similarly, their weaknesses are NOT things like Kryptonite… these are the base fears, desires, and certain tendencies that tend to hurt them/ get them into trouble more than anything else. This is how they fuck up, and what holds them back.
Sub-Plots are your character’s agenda, the thing aside from the threat of death that keep your character going, that keep them invested in doing the company’s bidding.
Lastly, Avatar art (har har) is required, and card art is recommended. Thank you.
Oh, one last thing… I’ve flagged this as NSFW because I tend to use swears a fair amount… and intend to allow for graphic violence and sexual content, to fit in with Shadowrun’s tone. To fit in with Avatar’s tone, I encourage light-hearted humor… though any humor will do. Life’s no fun if you can’t laugh at it, right?
