I’m a writer of novel-length fiction, short stories, academic analysis, and the occasional poem. I’m a teacher and a student; when I’m not wrangling high-schoolers and trying to teach them what little I know about literature, I’m working on completing my M.A. in Humanities at the local university. When it comes to writing, I love being able to focus on the mundane and the overlooked. In worlds full of heroes, spellcasters, and adventurers, I want to know what that rugged farmer’s been doing just to keep his crops alive; in space, the captain could be off struggling over the standards of the Prime Directive, but I want to know what that humdrum space-custodian is doing just to get through his day. I like characters who make impulsive, desperate, and human choices; I prefer seeing a character forge their way forward through everyday struggles. When not teaching or writing, I podcast about movies, books, and games with my brother; I woefully regret the amount of books I haven’t read; I practice Aikido; I re-enact Civil War and WWII-era history with historians far more knowledgable than he could ever hope to be. My life is my wife, my two demanding cats, and my fish. |
