The Chinook people have long spoken of gold that falls from the heavens—a harbinger of endings. Now their stories feel frighteningly real. After a rash of disappearances, the town founder, Edgar Willem Mercifont, has made a desperate announcement: his two teenage daughters were last seen riding into the hills in search of Heaven’s Gold. They never came back.
Edgar has joined forces with Tanik Alu, a Chinookan shaman whose nephew also vanished, to assemble a ragtag team of gunslingers, drifters, scouts, rangers, and scholars. Their mission: to find the missing children and uncover the truth behind the skyborn metal before more lives are lost—and before something far worse awakens.
What they find in the hills may not be of this world.
And it might not want to be found.
