Nomadic technocrats inhabit the South; barbarian hill-folk hold the North. In the East are the city states and merchant princes; in the West, a patchwork of experimental societies test the gamut of human experience. This is one land, one dominion, regulated by a single authority. Whether kingmakers, spymasters, philosophers, or bootleggers — when knowledge is power and data is currency, Archivists rule the world.

The Dominae of Maher district in Gur provide the low-tech answer, hiring out their scribes, secretaries, archivists and analysts to maintain databanks of ink and paper rather than 1s and 0s.

How much longer will this understratum accept the status quo? What price revolution?
