Far Zagoula, a beautiful city of philosophers and sorcerers on the edge of the desert, marking the border of Klarash. Sacked and fallen into ruin long ago, its country reduced to a blackened waste. Now it lies dreaming in its blanket of sand between the blistering desert to the south and the cursed, chaos-soaked ashes to the north.
Five hundred years ago the city fell to chaos and its people died horribly. Even before then, it was built to drive back the goblins and other natives, to take their land and fortify it against them. A lot of bad things have happened there; everyone has been wronged, every street has seen violence.
But now it stands, teeming with secrets, yet silent. Nobody really feels like fighting; perhaps the city itself is tired of fighting. Most days it’s so quiet you can almost hear the desert breathe.
Then one day, one year, one hour, you arrived, out of the ashes or out of the sands, into the wind-swept streets of the ruined city.
Why are you here? Do you flee sounds of the world beyond that still echo in your ears? Or does something call to you, here in the silence of lost Zagoula?
