Millennium City, supposedly home to a thousand heroes, but with many gone crime still happens, and then comes the enigma of Captain Chronos. Sometimes he shows up as a big hero, other times as a thief or villain, always claiming he was on some grand temporal mission, though that is questionable and has never been confirmed, but he might prove pivotal in finding Doctor Destroyer, if he can be caught or questioned.
Knowing Chronos was in the city UNTIL has set up a temporal disruption matrix across the city to prevent time travel, now its up for the heroes to bring him in, but he’s a wily type and has an assortment of futuristic gadgets should he choose to use them.
As the team approaches Chronos they can see he’s a little on edge, what’s going on?
“What do you mean ‘he’s just standing there’?” Candy’s rhetorical question was directed at the UNTIL Captain in charge of the operation. Candy stepped up to the monitor to see for herself. The live feed from the drone showed the chronal criminal standing in the center of the memorial garden, surrounded by the statues of fallen heroes. He paced back and forth and looked around nervously, checking various watches every few seconds.
“We arrived a bout 30 minutes ago and he hasn’t made any moves, demands or even soliloquized,” the captain said as he zoomed in closer on the monitor. “He even cleared the area of civilians before we got here.”
Candy turned to face the team.
“Any ideas?” she asked.
“We could try just talking to him,” Encephalon provided.
“That would be a nice change,” Surge added.
Candy shrugged her shoulders.
“Okay, let’s see if he’s in a chatty mood today.”
The team exited the mobile command center UNTIL had set up nearby and walked across the park until they stood at the edge of the circle of heroic statues.
“Watch my back,” Candy said as she continued to approach Captain Chronos.
“No problem,” replied Kestrel, in a less-than-official tone.
Candy smiled as she got closer to Chronos.
“Hello, Captain. I’m…”
“Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. You’re Candy Secret, currently with UNTIL, formerly of VIPER born 1989,died 20…” Captain Chronos rattled out before stopping himself.
Candy lifted an eyebrow, tempted to ask him to continue but decided against it.
“Captain, would you be willing to come with us back to UNTIL HQ? We’re looking for Doctor Destroyer…”
“I already told you, I… oh, wait. Maybe I haven’t yet; have I?”
“Let’s assume you haven’t, yet.”
Chronos looked up from his wrist computer and quickly counted the members of the team.
“Oh good. You’re all here,” he said with satisfaction. “This is where it gets complicated.”
