It is the 201st year of the Fourth Era, and for the orphans of Riften, change is coming. Civil war, the ‘season unending’, has descended upon Skyrim. Jarl Laila Law-Giver plans a visit to her city’s famed orphanage as part of a bid to win hearts and minds. And in a dark corner of Honorhall, a boy from Windhelm broods over escape… and revenge.
Every house has a story.
You know Honorhall’s. You know the story of a boy and the Black Sacrament – of death brought to a cruel headmistress in the seat of her own power – perhaps even of a happy ending for her erstwhile subjects, in a manor by Lake Ilinalta or a Dwemer hall in the Reach.
But this is not that story.
This is the story of before, when the Jarl of Riften came to visit… and left behind her a house no longer the oubliette it had always seemed to be.
