In folklore, the wolf pack is brutal and aggressive, dominated by an alpha male who leads the pack to kill anything (especially humans) for sport. In reality, a “wolf pack” is a wolf family, a mated pair and their children, who are cared for until they are old enough to strike off on their own. A pack’s social structure can thus be quite fluid, changing with the seasons or the years. Larger packs may also form, temporarily or permanently, as two mated couples cooperate with each other, but rarely go over 14 or 15 individuals.
In this game, a family of wolves in Alaska discover that they are in great danger, and must take the extreme step of leaving their own territory to find a new refuge. Along the way they must hunt for food, deal with other predators, and avoid the deadliest and most terrifying enemy of all… The Humans.
Fantasy element: the Alaskan wolf’s close connection to nature will manifest in abilities and events that could be called Magic. Further, our wolves will talk to each other with in-game dialog, and be intelligent, thoughtful, and emotive. Think “Watership Down” or “Homeward Bound”, but with 100-pound apex predators instead of rabbits or cute pets.
