(interview transcript)
Interviewer: Crystal Rivers; Paranormal Weekly News
Interviewee: Alexander Holland; Debunkers Inc.
Interview Setting: An independent coffee shop in Holborn; Central London
(start of interview)
Interviewer: What exactly is a debunker, Mr Holland?
Interviewee: Please, call me Alex. pauses to drink from his cup of black coffee Well, Crystal… I may call you Crystal, right? Anyway, a debunker is a person who attempts to discredit claims which are believed to be false.
Interviewer: In the case of your group these claims are of a supernatural nature, correct?
Interviewee: nods Yes. Urban legends, ghost stories, creature sightings and the like.
Interviewer: These supernatural claims, how do you go about proving them to be untrue?
Interviewee: It is difficult to prove a negative, Crystal… but through research and ‘eyewitness’ interviews… much like this one, we can at least discredit them. Bring facts to light, if you will.
Interviewer: OK. Have you ever ran across a claim you couldn’t discredit?
Interviewee: chuckles We wouldn’t be very good at our jobs if we had, now would we?
Interviewer: That’s true, I guess. I probably wouldn’t be here interviewing you if you weren’t good. You have mentioned ‘we’… who exactly are the others you speak of?
Interviewee: Besides myself, there is of course my sister, Sandy. As of now, the others would like to remain nameless, but they are all disbelievers like we are.
Interviewer: Is it true what they say about twins? That they have some kind of psychic connection?
Interviewee: Let me discredit that one right now. closer to the microphone My sister and I are living proof that twins are simply siblings which shared a womb. We in no way have any psychic connection. away from the microphone We barely have anything in common.
Interviewer: Except for your shared disbelief in all things supernatural.
Interviewee: True. raises his coffee in a mock toast
Interviewer: What claim are you in London to discredit?
Interviewee: We are here investigating the resurfaced claims of a clawed creature who attacks its victims by leaping at them and tearing them to shreds. chuckles Most unseemly. pause It has been dubbed Spring-Heeled Jack. laughs
Interviewer: The attacks do seem to be legitimate, Alex.
Interviewee: No doubt the attacks are, but a creature with claws? Come now. More likely to be Batman, if you ask me.
Interviewer: That’s a great quote… I think I’ll end my story with that. Thank you for your time, Alex.
Interviewee: A pleasure, Crystal.
=============================
Some Game Details
What - A game based in part on shows like Supernatural. The story revolves around a group posing as ‘debunkers’ who travel the world fighting the evils that urban legends and folklore are based on. The different storylines will all be based on ‘real life’ folktales throughout the world.
Where & When - The game takes place all over the world in modern times. If you’ve watched shows like Supernatural before you should have a pretty good idea of what kinds of things to expect as far as technology, magic, etc. Note - The games I run tend to be based on research, but in no way are they meant to be considered 100% accurate. They are works of fiction, taking place in worlds of our creation.
Who - The characters are all members of a group called Debunkers Inc. Roles will be defined on the Nature cards provided. Strengths and Weaknesses should reflect your character’s personality or a skill which would be useful to the group. Note - Characters evolve through the story they are in. Keep this in mind when playing your character and considering the characters others are building. Using little things from your character’s past will help progress your character through the story. (ex. Your character played baseball while in college, because of this they have a more athletic approach to some situations, or even have a higher endurance than someone who never played the game.) These are also things to consider when developing Wild cards.
Additional Notes
Note on Content - This game may at times contain adult themes; violence and some sexuality. For that reason I will be marking it NSFW. If at any time you are bothered please let the narrator know and the scene can be taken to GoogleDocs to be played out if necessary.
Note on Player Control - Unless you have permission from the player which is expressed in the commentary or have worked together outside the game (ie, GoogleDoc) there should be no control of other people’s characters being taken (this includes dialogue and actions). Notes will be included on the amount of control allowed for each NPC.
Note on Game Speed - From my time playing on Storium I’ve seen that game speed is never guaranteed. So, although it will be set to normal, I will advance the story as quickly or slowly as I deem appropriate. That being said, I also hope that it levels out to a normal speed and will do my best to make this happen. A lot of games start out very fast due to player excitement, so be prepared for this when applying.
Note on Word Count - I have disabled the word count limit for this game as to allow players to be more verbose. Please try not to take advantage of this by posting very long moves all the time. (It can be hard for others to absorb all the information, and they may miss something that was of some importance.) Also, do not feel that you have to make a longer post just because you can. Sometimes a short post can be all you need to make your point. Keep in mind that making a move that consists of one or two lines usually does not help move the story along.
Note on Comments - At no time should you take to the commentary to criticize another players writing. Helpful and constructive comments are fine. But, no verbal attacks or ‘flaming’ will be tolerated. If you do find you have a problem with one of the other players please contact me and I will do my best to resolve the issue to the benefit of everyone.
