You’re an ordinary person, living an ordinary life.
You go to work every day at an office or a factory or a store. You come home to your family, or your friends, or an empty apartment. You’re affluent or struggling or destitute, happy or bored or depressed.
It’s an ordinary life, like those lived by billions of other people on this world.
But you’re haunted by dreams of a different life, one in which you had extraordinary powers. You remember flying through the air, dodging bullets, shooting fire from your hands.
You hide these memories from other people. You think you’re going insane. You tell your closest friends. They think you’re going insane. They want you to see a therapist, to start taking medication.
There are no such things as superheroes. It’s a power fantasy, a fairy tale, wish fulfillment.
But the more you remember, the more you dream, the more you become convinced that this other world was the real world, and that the one you live in today is just a gray shadow of reality.
Unseen forces are converging, events are coming into alignment, and soon you will need to discover for yourself what is real, if you want to have any chance to survive.
Unpowered is a story of troubled people in a mundane world who have fantasies of being superheroes and supervillians. Or it’s a story of superheroes and supervillains who have found themselves in an alternate reality where their powers have been stripped and their memories corrupted. As the story progresses, these people may approach a clearer understanding of what is real.
Unpowered is Frank Miller meets Alan Moore meets Philip K. Dick. The story will be action-oriented and character-oriented and plot-oriented.
Strong characters will be the core of the story, but the action will start immediately and won’t let up until the end. The plot will unfold over time as the characters slowly start to learn the truth.
Unpowered will include lethal PvE and PvP using the Wordskill system I’ve developed, which is described here:
