The elves of Burntwood had never seen snow… until it arrived with a vengeance.
They might have dealt with droughts or forest fires, or even rainstorms and flooding, but when faced with ice and blizzards they had not the faintest idea what to do.
One thing was obvious: something was dreadfully wrong. Something unnatural.
But then, just as they were learning to cope with the new conditions, just as a glimmer of hope was beginning to shine through, the dragon appeared.
A dragon of ice and snow, fierce and ferocious, ruthlessly attacking their ships.
They were cut off from all aid. No food supplies could make it to Burntwood, and no word could make it to the mainland to stop the ships from coming. The cove became a graveyard. No one could stop the dragon, and it was going to kill them all.
Until you came.
The airship Scarlet Wind had no idea of the danger it was flying into. It never stood a chance. But the survivors of the terrible crash would be the saviours of Burntwood…

Info for invitees and applicants: none specified
The game takes place on Burnt Wood Island, part of a string of islands not far by boat or airship from the great mainland city of Feifan. Though it usually has a tropical climate, the island is currently in the grip of an unnatural winter.
Of course, the characters know nothing about the situation on the island before the game starts. They might be aware that no word has reached the mainland from Burntwood in over a week, which is unusual, but they have no idea of the danger posed by the ice dragon until they learn about it first hand.
You have your reasons for travelling to Burntwood; you didn’t intend to save the town and the island from anything, let alone such a dire threat as a dragon.
(Possibly) Helpful Information about Burntwood
- It is the largest town (really the only settlement worthy of the name) on Burnt Wood Island, named for both its forest-fires and its thriving charcoal business.
- It is inhabited both by the Pegushin elves, who live in towns like Burntwood or smaller villages, and the mysterious but usually non-hostile lizardfolk tribes.
- Burntwood is popular with traders, holiday-makers, and scholars looking to research the culture of either the elves or the lizardfolk. It’s also a good remote location to hide out, for those who find the mainland too hot to hold them—or, given the number of rich elves, a good place to find an employer… or a mark.
- The Pegushin elves are famed for their elaborate charcoal-drawn artworks, which makes their islands a draw for aspiring artists or art collectors.
Character Creation
If you need help, see my guides here (beginner-focused) and here (more general advice). In this specific case, you can follow the guidelines below.
Nature: What sort of a person are you? (In this case, roughly what sort of class would you be if this was an RPG?)
Strength: Which characteristic helps you succeed?
Weakness: Which characteristic makes you struggle?
Subplot: The game begins as the airship is crashing, so this should be what your priority will be after surviving the crash.
Avatar/PB/Face-claim: Use any fantasy-type image that suits you.
Name: There are no pre-defined naming schemes; pick anything you like.
Bio: Preferably 3-5 paragraphs about your character, or else a short (<400 word) scene introducing them.
You can use the cards provided or make your own. Card art is not required, but an avatar is. Try to stay focused on the things you need to know about the character to play them, and don’t over-think it too much!
