The Ayr Drive can rapidly accelerate a ship to 99.9999% of the speed of light. For its passengers, a journey of 100 light years can be undertaken in only 14 days – and a journey of of 10 light years in a day and a half.
But to the planetbound, they’re gone for decades… or centuries. Entire lifetimes.
There are those who are willing (even eager) to give up their ties to the past. This is a story about those people. Some of them chase wealth. Others flee the authorities, or their loved ones. But they’ve come together out of mutual necessity to pursue the only real profession available to those with no home, no connections, and no consequences:
Bounty hunting.
Time’s Bounty is a hard science fiction game set in a future without FTL. Humans have colonized thousands of planets and star systems, but even the closest are dozens of light-years apart. The Ayr Drive allows people to traverse these distances, but their destinations and even their origins can change significantly during flight. The characters are those willing to make that sacrifice for their own reasons, but even in the future there’s one truth: you gotta eat.
Well, two. You gotta eat, and your starship needs fuel.
Luckily there’s always work for those willing to ply the vast interstellar distances of space, and gold speaks no matter what planet you’re on. So the characters are bounty hunters – sometimes hired directly to solve problems, sometimes acquiring jobs as they go. Whatever the case, trouble seems to follow in their footsteps.
