A murder mystery with a twist
The weather has grown worse since the guests arrived, with dark, brooding clouds, and heavy rain driving on the window panes. Within, however, a roaring open fire and a plenitude of candles are keeping the party warm and pleasantly lit.
Several guests are sitting at the table in the centre of the room or standing around, perusing the bookshelves that adorn the walls, supping tea from delicate china cups, and talking urbanely to one another. All those present are notables, people of standing, or prominent socialites, though none had happened to meet one another before, and they seem to have little in common - why these people, in particular, were invited to the same event is anyone’s guess. Their presumed host is conspicuous by his or her absence; after having been shown to the tastefully decorated room in which they currently reside by well-presented house staff, the group have been left much to their own devices.
After some time spent politely but awkwardly breaking the ice, things seemed to be settling into a more relaxed pace.
All of the attendees had responded to anonymous invitations to an exclusive, informal tea party, and it seems that none know who actually sent the original correspondence. Neither does there appear to be an agenda for the evening, at least until matters take a turn for the worse.
