Mankind has seeded its first colonies among the stars. Real-time interstellar communication has finally been achieved via time distortion. Messages are sent into the past to slowly travel the cosmic expanse for receipt by the present. Unexpectedly, a garbled message is received from the future. This is an anomaly as messages are never intended to be read in the past as any change resulting from the information would create a divergent timeline, leaving the originator unaffected. This message was sent for their contemporaries.
“Aff—-ative. 98% confi—d dead. All our r—-ining transports h—– been destr—-d. Situati— -ow futil-. G— -e- —– fallen. — did it, it’s ove-, you’re ——”
At that moment, the as-yet uncolonized star system of HD 886, known as Gamma Pegasi, awaited a ship bringing 11,541 men, women, and children to the second planet of the system, ready to begin their new lives as Earth’s twelfth colony. Now that you know what could happen, their fate in this timeline is not set. They can be saved.
