This game takes off a few months after the last Vanguard game ended, with the same characters we all know and love.
Welcome to New York City, with the help of Janet, the team was able to set up a small private detective agency.
What happened back in Nevada: a team from headquarters showed up right before you all left for a mission to find and stop that the necromancer and Yona. But before you could they shut the Nevada base down. Blaming most of the mismanagement on Eli. Seeing how he was the one who had put you all in danger and was holding onto the book all this time. After the left with Eli and the book they suspended the team, leaving you all to find your own path for the time being. Not wanting to give up, when you know that as many dangers to the world were out hunting the night, there were just as many hiding in the shadows of the Vanguard. The person who had let the Skinwalkers in had still not been found.
Shortly after the Nevada base was shut down, Janet (The Mad Seer’s, Charles’s, caretaker) Called you all with a solution to get back on the case. That was to work outside the Vanguard. Which you could now do seeing as you all are on suspension. Brian for some reason took your side. Saving/hiding the Gnomes and Percy from the London team and has now signed up with you, Charles too, seeing he and Larry have been forced into retirement.
Working like this would let you work along with human hunters and the unseen world to stop the Chaos Bringer.
At some point in the story I would get the book back to you and give you someone who could make you a new box. It is then up to you to find and get what you need to make it. And maybe along the way gather your army the fight the coming darkness.
