Hundreds of years ago the eldest son of the King was walking through the forest when he came upon a small cottage. Out came a witch, appearing as a young woman, who, on seeing him immediately turned him into a small rabbit.
The King became frantic at not being able to find his son and told the country that he would offer a reward for anyone who was able to find him. A few days later the witch, a Daughter of Circe, grew tired of the intruders in its woods so it killed the rabbit-prince and made him into stew. The witch then informed the King that it had found his son, but invited the entire royal family to dinner at its cottage, saying that it couldn’t leave its home.
The family arrived, desperate to find the prince. The witch insisted they eat first so they all began the meal. Half-way through the witch announced that it would tell them where the son was if the King truly wanted to know. The King assured the witch that even if his son was dead he wanted to know what had become of him to give him a proper funeral. Again the witch asked if he wanted to know. Again he promised that he did.
The witch stood and waved its hands over the stew, returning the rabbit to his original form. The family felt their stomachs and didn’t realize what had happened until the Queen saw a hand floating in the stew.
As the Queen shrieked and fainted the witch turned to look at the King and told him that there were the remains of his son, aside from what was in their stomachs.
The younger son, so grief stricken promised to rid his country and the world from such horrible creatures and formed The Vanguard to protect the innocent humans that were being destroyed by the evils ravaging the countryside and wherever there was Vanguard there was peace and prosperity.
Bloody Mary, The Boogie Man, Circe, Demons, Shapeshifters, and vampires, they’re all real.
The Vanguard is a ancient order that goes back centuries that fights against the things that go bump in the night. Are you brave enough to become one of the defenders of mankind.
You are a new recruit at the facility in Nevada. You may have been there for a couple of months, (learning the mythology and methods) or just long enough to finish the “Preventing Infections” seminar (if you’re there because of brute strength).
Today you meet your team. An eclectic group from all walks of life who’ve all had run ins with the Wyrd.
Today the In-field training starts and The Vanguard doesn’t have time to coddle you.
Character Creation Info:
Feel free to edit the cards or create whole new ones.
Remember something happened that got your character interested in the type of work The Vanguard does. But that doesn’t mean they knew The Vanguard was there. The Vanguard is extremely secretive. In theory your character could be part of one of the maybe four hunting families worldwide that The Vanguard trusts, so they would know who The Vanguard were. But even then The Vanguard doesn’t share everything.
Your character could have been entrenched in the Wyrd for years and just now caught the eye of the Vanguard, or could have been rescued by The Vanguard and recruited immediately. We’re excited to see what happens in this world so go ahead and do what you would like with your characters.
As far as bio length, intrigue us. Create a character we want to know more about. It doesn’t matter whether you do that in a paragraph or a ten-page essay we want characters that seem interesting.
That being said, If there’s a secret that your character has or something major that you want to keep a secret from the other players go ahead, put it in the comments or, email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org just so we know what’s going on (if there’s a chance that your character will walk into a vampire nest, look at one and go, “Mom?” it’d be useful for us to know). We’re less likely to step on toes that way.
