From Dr. Oliver Q. Hightower, III
Your Majesty,
I have begun to look into the Fire-Blight per your command and have opened a dialog with some of the native Elves in the area. They seem just as confused as we are as to where it came from or what it is. They have fantastic stories which I shall recount for you in detail.
One of the most ridiculous tales come from an old shaman that I encountered. He swears that the Fire-blight is somehow related to demons. This is just the sort of preposterous poppycock that one expects from these superstitious natives. The Fire-blight must have a scientific explanation and I intend to find it.
However, believing that the stories may have some basis in fact, I am continuing to talk to as many of the tribes as I can, in hope that I may find that grain of truth that will lead me to discover the cause of this affliction.
I have also had the great good fortune of coming on an eruption in progress and have made detailed notes about the phenomenon. Hopefully, those notes will be able to become a basis for further scientific study of this occurrence. Unfortunately, all of my instruments were destroyed in the flare-up but there is a positive side to that: clearly, the temperature of the eruption is over 2000 degrees.
I feel sure that I would be able to discern some sort of pattern, if only I could see more data, and thus, I beg your Majesty to allow me to mount an expedition west, in order to study this phenomena more closely.
Your humble servant,
Oliver Q. Hightower, III
