A land ravaged by war continues to tear at itself even at the turning of an age where mankind finds itself entering the era of hunger and the reign of beasts. Feudal lords clutch to their lands with a death grip, their hunger sharpened claws dare not release their hold lest they lose what little resource they have with which to feed their people and themselves. There has been no King to rule over the lords for near on eighty years now and the lords find themselves locked in constant struggle over liveable land.
To make matters worse, all manner of dark and terrible beasts plague the borders and I defended villages. There was once a time where great and wise wizards watched over all the land delegating between factions, fighting for peace and keeping the darkness at bay.
It was thought that the last of the ancient wizards had long since moved on from this world in the pursuit of greater knowledge, those wizards in the employ of the nation’s courts could not hope to fill those shoes and with the expectations pressed on them eventually they two faded from public view. Of course some remained in service, loyal to their lords and among the adventurers, and mercenaries were many talented in arcana who made a living trading their talents for coin.
Now a certain lord has gathered you. Either by your reputation or by your own initiative you have been recruited into a team of talented warriors, skilled Rangers and powerful wizards. Your task, to quest into the great wood to investigate telling a of a wizard tower having been sighted in various locations. Should the tower belong to one of the ancient wizards it would be just the asset needed to place the lord on the throne and unify the lands once more.
