Every year, the wealthy and powerful in the Kingdom of Avalus gather in the capital of Kaistania to tend to the business of laws and governance. With so many members of high society gathered in one place for several months, a packed social season full of lavish balls and elaborate traditions has developed. It is an opportunity to mingle with those from all corners of the realm, a chance to make friends and upstage rivals, a chance to find allies and climb further up the ladder of power. For many, it is also the best chance to find a spouse.
Every year sees the debut of dozens of new young nobles and other well-to-do singles eager to find the best match for themselves during the events of the season. There are competitions both overt and subtle as they seek love, fortune, stability, or some mixture of all three. As the next season approaches, Avalus is in a time of flux. It is entering a time of peace and health after a long period of war and plague. New inventions promise new prosperity, but also run the risk of upending old social orders. Those who attend this season may not only decide their own fates, but the course of the kingdom itself.
