Before there was time, before there was space, there was Nemmu.
Both light and dark, soft and hard, masculine and feminine.
Before Nemmu there was nothing. Then Nemmu came to be: an all-knowing primordial serpent. They opened their eyes, one brown and one blue, and without thought began to slither. Thus the cosmos and the void were born.
From Nemmu’s consciousness sprang other primordials, and they spread across existence. They created and destroyed, punished and rewarded, loved and hated.
Ages passed beyond counting. The primordials shaped reality, then shattered it. They raised worlds, then cast them down. One by one they vanished into the darkness they had made.
In the end, only Nemmu remained, the perfect imperfect, both utter chaos and natural order.
Nemmu stretched across the ruins of the dead universe and slept for an eternity.
At last, the great serpent awoke.
“Awaken. Shape this universe in our image.”
Then Nemmu revealed their fangs and bit deeply into their own tail. Once. Twice. Again and again.
From each severed piece, an immortal was born.
Some inherited Nemmu’s mercy. Others their wrath. Some dreamed of creation, while others hungered for destruction. Yet all carried within them a fragment of the First Serpent.
And so the immortals entered the reborn cosmos to shape it as they saw fit.
