3177 AD. Alpha Orionis was dying.
Humans have established faster-than-light interstellar travel thanks to the successful Carmack-Musk Foundation, laying the foundation for commercial spaceships. Since Mars turned out to be unsustainable for colonisation, humans have spent countless hours finding a new home.
At the time, Gamma Orionis was thought to be a good candidate. It was roughly eight times the mass of Sol, a familiar sun, and it burns four times brighter. Extraterristial, intelligent creatures were found to inhabit on a couple of distant planets. Little did our ancestors know, it would be the beginning of a new inter-species alliance.
The breaking point came when our calculation was off by an order of magnitude of four, and new stars were forming. Old stars were dying. The Orion constellation was becoming unstable for prolonged inhabitance. It was only a matter of time before the dying sun, Alpha Orionis, consumes our new home.
You are part of a multi-galaxy effort whose mission is to see the alliance and survival of our species continue in a chase of firestorms and impending death.
