You must’ve fucked up bad to draw this story. It’s just sordid enough to be time consuming but not nearly important enough to get you a Pulitzer. Which editor did you piss off?
This evening, Frank “The Chin” Maggliano was gunned down on the courthouse steps in front of the cops, his lawyer, maybe even you, if you were covering the trial. Whole thing was weird. The guy didn’t look like a mobster. Ran off before anyone could stop him.
Things are winding down now, settling into that after-crime mode where the cops are fairly loose and most of the gawkers have gone home.
Time to put on the press badge and go to work.
