It is March 1924. The hysteria surrounding the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun has abated slightly, only to be replaced by mutterings of a curse following the death of Lord Carnarvon. Archaeologists have had their hopes of significant new finds reignited, however charlatans abound, and sorting fact from fiction has become the first stage of any new venture.
The Lotus of Hath Sa’art, stories say, had almost miraculous properties. The stories attribute it with a number of abilities, from reanimating the dead to granting eternal life, but the most frequent–and the most likely–are of healing properties beyond anything known to man. Previously dismissed as pure fiction, new evidence has come to light in the form of a map purporting to show the oasis in the desert at which it once grew. Unfortunately, the Century Club has heard rumours that Dr. Hashim Al-Safaga, an old adversary of the club, has also heard the news and has been making his own inquiries after the map.
The Century Club has been concerned enough to arrange an expedition into the desert in the hopes of finding a surviving plant. After all, there are no guarantees that this is the only map, or that its current holder may not have made copies, hoping to make yet more money from the deal. You have been selected to represent the Century Club on this mission, and have been urgently summoned to Egypt.
It won’t be plain-sailing, of course. There’s the heat and the harshness of the environment, as well as the competition. But your superiors have been in contact with the current holder of the map, and a meeting has been arranged with them in Luxor. Surely you can find the plant well ahead of Dr. Al-Safaga and return with it to the Century Club, where it can be used for the good of all mankind.

Third person past tense, please. Don’t move other people’s characters more than a word or two, unless you’ve discussed things ahead of time.
I’ve kept the idea of the Century Club from the original, and am figuring they still seek out/sponsor people who are exceptional in some way, but I’m backing off the idea of the centurions.
Info for invitees and applicants: none specified
I’ve provided a few natures and other cards, but since we have existing characters, I don’t anticipate many of them being used. Several people had themed pictures, if nothing else. And if you want to use more pulp-y, SotC-type strengths and weaknesses (like the aspects from the source book), then so much the better.
I’m hoping this will be facts-light, so don’t worry if you don’t know your sarcophagus from your canopic jar! I won’t go much deeper than a simple Google search myself, but if you find a super-cool fact, by all means incorporate it. I’ll be looking to pick up plot hooks you throw in, but I do have a broad-brush plan for this, and reserve the right to steer you back on track if you deviate too much from it.
Historical notes: At this point in time, Egypt is transitioning from being a British protectorate to a fully-independent country. It has its own parliament, but British presence/influence is still very strong. Local government is likely to be a mixture of British and Egyptian.
Geographical notes: the game will take us to an entirely fictitious archaeological site some distance from Luxor. I intend to make it remote enough that while cars/trucks can get a certain distance, they are unlikely to get all the way there because of the terrain. This also makes it more likely that the site has been undisturbed for centuries, of course, though camel trains etc. will undoubtedly know of the nearby oasis.
Timeline: I’ve made this happen before the original Bride of the Winds, and assumed that makes that one not canon. Since the characters now don’t have to be born in 1901, we’ve got a bit more flexibility, but I wanted it soonish after Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered. If that’s an issue for anyone, I can tweak it.
I’ve set the speed to Normal, which in Storium terms means 2-3 scenes per week. I’m taking that as 2-3 moves per week, until I see how it goes.
