In this game, you play an intelligent spaceship, waking after a long ‘sleep’ to find that the entire human race has vanished – including your own crew. Your (programmed) imperative is to find out what happened and find any survivors. Without a crew, you aren’t as effective as you should be – many of your systems simply can’t be operated – but you can still maneuver and protect yourself reasonably well.
Background: Terrans explored space for hundreds of years (and blew up each others’ ships a lot) before encountering alien life (the Iridian Empire), which gave them another set of enemies to attack. War led to peace led to war again and finally to unification as the Commonwealth of Life. At which point, presumably, you were put into mothballs, just in case of a future threat.
Characters: select a Ship Type (aka your Nature), and the usual Strength and Weakness cards. For names, pick an official ship name (ie “King George IX” or “City of San Francisco”) and a nickname given to you by your (long dead) crew (ie “George” or “Frannie”). (Exception: no naming after anyone who is currently alive).
For personality, note that the AI’s were designed to be ‘relatable’ to their human crews, and have very human personalities, quirks, and even hobbies or favorite games – write your dialog and thoughts as if you were human, with the occasional robotic interjection.
Your history can be whatever you like – glorious battle or shameful massacre, dedicated research or boring supply runs – but during Scene 1, I’ll be asking you how you know each other. Examples of events that can be referenced in your history: the Battle of Proxima Centauri, First Contact with the Iridian Empire, the Evacuation of Mars. Feel free to make up more, and use the events mentioned in other bios to establish links between the characters.
