Have you heard of the adventurers, noble and powerful heroes from throughout the Four Kingdoms, who gathered at an inn in the Borderlands, met a Mysterious Figure, and then journeyed off to fame, fortune, and destiny en route to saving the world?
This is not their story.
Rather, it’s the story of that inn, and the people who work there. Who have smaller but no less daunting (to them, anyway) challenges everyday in the running of the place and dealing with the elves, dwarves, orcs, warriors, wizards, and thieves that that arrive and depart daily. They want ale, they want meat, they want to hassle the serving staff and be directed to the nearest cloaked figures lurking in the dark corners.
It’s not a legendary job, but it pays decent. And someone has to do it.
This is intended to be a non-epic, plot-light fantasy story driven mainly by character interactions. I expect some comedy, some drama, maybe even some romance as the staff of the Inn of the Red Roof work to manage the patrons (and their bosses) and avoid cleaning the outhouse after the dwarves all-night bender, while trying to keep employed.
The setting is a Generic Fantasy Realm. Assume all your favorite Tolkien-esque species and tropes. I’m hoping for some collaborative world-building, but the setting that really matters is the Inn and its immediate environs. There will be no wide-ranging questing nor dungeons delving. Though you may be sent into the cellars retrieve a rare brandy, just watch out since there were some Slime Eggs spotted the last time anyone went down there.
