This game is rated Mature. It may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and/or strong language.
Bright sunlight reflects off the sea as you stare into that endless expanse of blue. It is 1860, and you are onboard The Inescapable Ana, a ship carrying passengers and cargo across the South Pacific. The industrial age circles the globe. This isolated part of the world is still a wild frontier where someone can make a fresh start, or discover yet unknown mysteries.
People from all walks of life find their way onto The Inescapable Ana. Some are settlers looking for a new home, some missionaries bringing their message to the world, and some are simply men and women trying to outpace the relentless progress of industry and change. A few come with a hidden mission, to learn of the magic and mystery that awate.
This is an opened ended, character driven game. I would like the players to take part in the world building with me as The Ana sets sail.
Setting: Occult Mystery, set in the South Pacific. Ahistorical Victorian Era. The ship’s route will take it through Hawaii, Tonga, Figi, New Zealand, Australia, and up through Indonesia, so your characters could be headed for any of those destinations (or maybe they aren’t going anywhere in particular).
Notes on Setting: I want to focus more on characters and plot than accuracy and research, so we will play a little fast and loose with maritime history and realism.
Characters: I’ve created three nature cards, but I encourage you to use those as a jumping off point to create your own natures. Strengths and weaknesses are totally up to you. The only characters that are off limits are Captain and First Mate.
Power levels: Any occult powers will be minimal and subtle. Simply recognizing that there is a secret world of the occult is uncommon. Working any true magic is complex and dangerous.
Number of Players: 4-6
The first scene will be: Two days after your departure from San Francisco.
