By the year 2142, mankind has colonized multiple planets throughout our solar system and even terraformed some of them. The influx of new resources saved Earth’s population from economic catastrophe, but their salvation came at a steep price.
The privatization of space travel and the subsequent monopoly on interplanetary trade has elevated a select few companies to unprecedented wealth. One by one the superpowers of Earth capitulated to the corporate machine. CEOs rule like tyrants over economically enslaved populations living in perpetual debt.
Yet there is hope in the unlikeliest of places. Even the wealth of the entire solar system could not slake their greed. They desired more. Needed more. The resources of other worlds. Other solar systems. Other galaxies. But the time, fuel, and manpower required to reach them with conventional travel is… cost inefficient.
Thus was The High Road created. A machine capable of enlarging wormholes. A shortcut to profits as infinite as the universe itself. But this tool of their own exploitation is also an opportunity for escape. The rebel heart still beats long and loud in the breast of those who yearn for freedom in the great unknown.
It won’t be easy to steal a ship or find a crew, and even then you’ll still need to find a habitable planet before your fuel runs out. Then there’s the Debt Collectors and Corporate Liquidators. Who knows how far they’ll go to chase you down?
It’s a risk for you and your family. A terrible risk. Will you take it?
