1900s STEAMPUNK/HORROR/GHOST HUNTING
Established in 1889 by Colonel Harland S. Black II. It has had two complete overhauls of members in its 15 years of operation of which Colonel Black speaks very little. It has a direct rivalry with the Society for Psychical Research and has been referenced in newspapers alongside the other. Harland has become a firm critic, annoyed at the SPR’s unresearched methods and failure to produce solid evidence.
He formed the Gentleman’s Club to be more learned and more active. It has also experienced several large successes speckled throughout the years, a few times debunking well-established members of the SPR itself. For this, he is seen as an enemy of mediumship and his actions viewed as a betrayal.
Despite the accusations and the purpose of the Debunking Club, Harland maintains a stance of exploration and demands his members keep their own minds alerted to possibilities. The best researcher, he believes, is both learned in the matter of deception and open to being proven wrong; a straddled line between knowledge and belief. On the other hand, the man unabashedly takes the front line when it comes to the Debunking Club receiving any attention or press. His is the face on all the articles and pamphlets and his is all the credit.
