26th September 1891 // Fairfax Manor - Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Today’s papers are leading with an unusual story. ‘SPIRITUAL STRANGLING? AN ATTEMPT FROM THE OTHER SIDE!’, ‘BACK FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE? THE GHOSTLY ATTEMPTED MURDER OF MR. DRUITT’ and variants of the same line. They all read in a similar fashion to the Scotsmans’ report which is as follows.
Yesterday evening, on the outskirts of Scotland’s capital, a wealthy English chemist was attacked by a violent and evil spirit. Mr Magnus Druitt was found on the landing in his home in a state of unconsciousness with heavy bruising on his neck.
He later awoke in a state of disorder and panic: citing the ghost of his late wife, Georgina Druitt [nee Fairfax], for the attack.
Mrs. Poppy Druitt insists that there was no-one else in the house yesterday evening. Only her, her husband, the two children and the serving staff. She insists that what her husband saw must have been real and fears for the safety of her family.
Initial police reports say that Scotland Yard have reason to suspect this was a spiritual occurrence and have yet to find evidence to suggest otherwise. They remain committed to investigating the case.
The victim remains in his home in a state of rest. We wish him a quick recovery and strength in this trying time.
Five of you have been summoned to investigate the strange goings on at Fairfax Manor. You’ve all got your own reasons for coming, be it professional or personal, but you’re all searching for the same thing: the truth.
A game in the style of the traditional Victorian murder mystery. This story will contain elements of the supernatural, family strife and plenty of twists and turns! This story will (hopefully!) take a serious tone with lighter moments.
This is a casting call for a Priest, Solicitor and Detective Inspector to join our cast of two. I’m looking for thee interesting and fully formed characters who fit in the period.
The strengths and weaknesses are in form of playing cards being read as Tarot cards. Don’t be discouraged by this. If the cards I’ve provided don’t suit your characters strengths and weaknesses, that is perfectly fine. Feel free to create your own ones using this guide. http://www.serenapowers.com/playingcards2.html
I’ve set this as a period mystery so be aware of the differences in society between then and now. Negative attitudes towards certain groups of people on the grounds of religion, race, gender and sexual orientations will be present but not in extremes. I do not aim to offend, I mean to create a sense of realism. The story will be marked NSFW.
