Welcome to Heather Hollow Hall, a lonely manor tucked away in North York, England. The old estate is owned by the famous inventor and recluse, Alad Blackwood. And you have been invited for an unusual visit.
The year is 1882. The autumn evenings are slowly giving way to the pale skies of winter, the scent of snow lingers in the air.
Heather Hollow is nestled on the edge of the great moorland plateau, the lavender heather fading in concert with the whispering farewell of autumn. Sea cliffs dominate the landscape to the east, beyond which the gray sea stretches to the distant horizon.
It is a beautiful, desolate landscape. The closest village is twenty miles away as the crow flies.
And it is here that Blackwood has been working on his greatest invention yet–an invention he claims he is now ready to share with the world.
But first, with you. To gloat, of course.
The invention, he claims, has triumphed in the supreme quest of alchemy. It will make him rich beyond measure.
It is sure to be a most fascinating, yet unpleasant visit.
Unless…something unexpected happens.
