You were someone who knew there was darkness in the world. You may have been a force for good, you could even have been an evil son of a gun, but when the chips were down, and you were faced with the truth and exposed to the real nature of evil, you did the right thing, you fought the good fight, you challenged the darkness and chose the light.
You may have only faced that darkness once, you may have faced it a thousand times. But to all things there is an end, and in the end, the darkness beat you. You were broken and gone.
You remember a sensation. Searing pain that was ice and fire, sharp and dull, a slicing and a tearing all at once. You have never felt anything so indescribably, gut wrenchingly terrible. That was your soul being ripped out of your body as they dragged you out of yourself, those hungry dreadful creatures pulling at you, threating to shred your very essence as they took you to hell.
But that wasn’t the end after all. You were saved, on the very brink of torment. Bright light, peace, restoration and a feeling of utter bliss. They were the Seraphim, angels if you like, though they hate that word. What they are are benign spirits that work for…. let’s call them the Higher Powers. It was the Serpahim that saved you.
Of course, even in the afterlife nothing comes without a price. They didn’t just save you because it was the right thing to do. They saved you to offer you a job. To take up arms and fight the evil in a way you couldn’t have done before. You were rebuilt into a Nephilim, a Stalker, a champion.
The Seraphim explained the eternal war. Revelations got it all twisted. There isn;t going to be a judgement day, no great battle at the end of days. The battle is here and now, and it is also the past and the future. The battle is wherever evil strikes. Dark malevolent Gods of ancient times, mad spirits and monstrous entities from beyond time and space tear holes in reality, seeking to remake the world to their liking. They have to be stopped, reality has to be preserved.
Now it’s your job, your duty, to go out into the mortal world again and deal with that darkness. Now your vision is clear. You can see evil, taste it. And now you have the tools to fight it. You will bring these powers to heel, you will trap them and seal them away in the Vault Eternal.
