DEFCON 23: once again, the elite hacking convention is happening in Las Vegas, Nevada. But 2015 has already been strange months before the convention begins; unexpected emergency repairs at the usual hotel force the gathering to not only change venues but seasons. Thankfully, the Luxor was able to come to the rescue and host the premiere gathering of hackers, sneakers, and security experts of all sorts – even if it required moving from the usual summer months to the last weekend in September.
The strangeness doesn’t end with the shift in venue; rumors have been running wild for months that someone is planning to unveil something that will completely change the paradigm of computer security as we know it. Most people are already dismissing it as the usual overblown hype, full of the same hot air that usually hangs over the city – but the rumors just won’t die, and no one wants to take a chance that they’ll miss out. Attendance records look like they’ll be shattered, and everyone has their own pet theory about who’s going to be speaking, and what they’re going to reveal.
Whatever happens, it’s sure to be a conference that no one is likely to forget.
