There are many names in many languages that have attempted to describe what was immaterial. As nations rose and fell by the whims of the unknown, mankind sought to escape its boundaries.
It is an Age of Steam. Technology has progressed, as airships cut down travel times and steam engines power daily life - yet one could say that it is also an Age of the Strange.
The unknown, the immaterial, has been scrutinized by the Sciences over the Renaissance of Knowledge. By exploring ancient ruins and by performing test after test, they have come to a singular conclusion.
This unknown, this immaterial that has been debated to death can no longer be ignored. It is strange, dangerous and its true potential is unknown, but it does exist. The people call it Magic, the Sciences call it Aether and it has become responsible for pushing the world to the brink.
As the world’s great powers attempt to control and expand, the first of the Free Cities have opened their island ports to any who desires escape from impending war.
Their mission is to understand the Aether, and hope that they can save the precious historical artifacts and ruins that may hold the key to survival, before war takes Humanity back to the Stone Age.
