For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved the sound of the ocean. Of the sea. Of any body of water. Running along the beachside as a child and smelling the scent of salt as it carried over the sea breeze. Through the years I wanted everyone to share the appreciation which the waves imparted unto me, the relaxing crash of water as it meets land. How the currents cradle a bothered mind into a sleep like none other. My hands couldn’t paint, and my mouth couldn’t preach. This fell upon my fingers, my mind, to let loose the world onto a sheet of paper, vast amounts of paper. Filling up novels with the joys and peace the water brought.
The naive notion of something always being there for you had blinded me to the harsher realities of what lurked beneath. I’m unsure how to even phrase these thoughts, how to build the problem which I wish to fix. Will it be worse? Will it be better? I believe the saying goes: “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” So I will go about on this venture to silence the whispers which pollute my mind.
You are a college student, someone who’s studying to become something more because you were taught this was how to improve yourself. Maybe you don’t believe those ideals. Maybe you are too afraid to go against the will of your parents, or feel it is all you can do because society made it seem as such. But you’ve come to university. You’ve come to study something new and challenging. And maybe you’ve been here for some time. Maybe you’re almost done, ready to get out.
It’s all besides the point.
You’ll be on campus for a prestigious college, one known as the Goldman University. The school has many different majors for its students giving them plenty of opportunity to expand their knowledge, but with and emphasis on the sciences. Especially anything dealing with Biology or Medicine. Maybe you chose on of these programs to be a part of, or maybe you’ve chosen something else, something more classical, like a Literature major. It is your choice after all.
It’s all besides the point.
You and your group of friends are familiar with what the internet calls “creepypasta” and enjoy looking into the occult. The stuff seems to interest you and your group of friends for whatever reason. You all like to find whatever horrifying and terrifying stories you can within the internet and share them, see who can top who. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but it’s a great time sharing these stories with one another. It’s almost like the campfire stories kids do when they’re younger, seeing who will get too scared to sleep alone at night.
It’s getting colder.
Someone in the group stumbles upon something big. Maybe it’s you. Maybe it’s someone else. Or maybe it’s all of you. But someone’s stumbled upon the work of none other than Orvell Tucker, a famous author from Tampa, Florida who wrote many romance novels. Most were set on the oceanside and were world renowned for the ability to capture some of life’s most heartwarming moments. But this one isn’t a work that was ever released. This is something that’s being worked through currently, through a company known as Heart&Soul.
Heart&Soul do many things, one of which is publish books. The other, is operating facilities for learning. Specifically, the one you and your friends are attending. And this company seems to be hiding away a story which you and your friends just stumbled upon in their files. And it’s taking time to get the whole thing, but from what you’ve seen thus far, this isn’t Tucker’s typical writing. This looks to be like something your friends like. The creepy side of stories.
And slowly, but surely, strange things begin to happen as you all uncover more of the story. And you might begin to wonder: will you be able to sleep alone at night?
Dare you read?
