Welcome to the Cold War
The year is 1948 and the world knows a fragile peace between East and West, one held not only by nuclear powers, but by supermen. Little more than ten years ago most of mankind was blissfully unaware that they were not alone. That was until the Manchurian Incident when the Chinese revealed on film the existence of superhumans in their armies. Within weeks every nation had publicly revealed supers and nonhumans in their militaries. When the Second World War came supers fought in every theater of the war, not just as soldiers, but doctors, engineers, spies, and scientists.
In 1942 a squad of american super soldiers was formed to infiltrate Europe and destroy high priority targets, made up of the first receiver of the Paragon super-soldier serum, a mutant, a tele-operated robot, a man who claimed to be an immortal dragon, an alien warrior from a parallel dimension, and Avalon a hero of incredible power and unknown origin. Designated Squad 13 the team ended up after months behind enemy lines they took out high priority targets along with liberating many concentration camps. Seeing the horrors done within the camps the squad leader Avalon disobeyed orders and flew an alien telepathic projector to Berlin and broadcast the horrors of the concentration camps into the minds of every loyal citizen of the Reich, and then threatened mass retaliation if they continued. With hysteria from the incident Hitler ordered the camps closed and the war was put on hold for a month as the Allies had to deal with a humanitarian crisis and the Germans tried to regroup. In this time Squad 13 was officially dissolved and Avalon discharged from the army.
Once the war restarted it became savage as both sides threw everything they had at one another. Eventually the members of Squad 13 reunited and deciding to disobey orders they would end the war by any means necessary. Costing half the Squad their lives the team brought the war to an end in June 1944 by assassinating Hitler as Avalon burned through the Fuehrer’s skull. High ranking German officials surrendered shortly afterward fearing they would be killed in a similar manner. Two months later the war ended in the Pacific as Super scientists completed the atomic bomb. Though the world was now at peace and the members of Squad 13 were labeled heroes many Axis Super-soldiers and super villains such as the King of Death escaped as the dust settled and Cold War lines started to be drawn.
Superhuman survivors of the war broke into camps, some seeking to nurture and protect humanity turned to heroism. Some disillusioned turned to decadence and crime giving rise to Super-villainy. Others tried to return to a normal life. Avalon turned to heroism preventing ex-Nazi super soldiers from conquering several South and Central American nations while in the U.S. a sorcerer called Cerulean stopped the Mutant gangsters from robbing Fort Knox.
Four months ago an alien fleet from an alien empire the Greys attempted to invade in Roswell. A dozen so called heroes and a few villains banded together to defeat them, and with the invasion being mostly bloodless a treaty was negotiated to allow the stranded Grey forces to be recognized as refugees instead of prisoners. The invasion was enough to revive the program, Squad 13 is to be recommissioned to deal with such threats as the Soviets, the Nazi supers OSS now identified as the Enterprising Villain International Legion (E.V.I.L.), and other potential unseen threats.
