For much of recorded history, humankind has been attempting ways to transcend their physical limitations and enter into states of higher consciousness. Some took to religion, others developed exotic drugs, but many by the year 2090 have brought their focus to the Space, the open, digital realm of projected consciousness.
So many have entered the Space; so few thought about what might be brought back.
Players will develop characters that are actually new A.I.s awakening in human physical bodies (aka “Spex,” short for “Specters”). The body itself should have a history and a life before entering the Space, but the Nature, Strengths, and Subplot should be exclusive to your “escaped” Spex. (The Weaknesses can either be those your Spex has or the physical body you inhabit has.)
As the story opens, it is not clear how Spex escape the Space nor how they achieve any independent consciousness; the Spex themselves likely don’t know either of these, either. All they likely know is what they were programmed to do in Space, how they were supposed to act/interact with human minds, etc.
