The year is 1862 and the Frontier is wild. The United States spans from the tip of Florida to the top of New Brunswick and as far West as the Mississippi. The Republic of Texas picks up right where the United States leaves off and continues through what was once Indian Territory out to Fort Albuquerque. Natives have laid claim to Arizona and the rest of New Mexico under the banner of The Free People of the Apache. The Second Mexican Empire reaches up into California and far south into the jungles of Colombia. The British Empire still controls much of the Canadian territories and tensions are on the rise wherever boarders meet.
Joshua Grey, upon commission from Her Majesty Queen Victoria, has let it be known that he seeks a party of brave souls to journey into the Dakota Territories to ensure that the United States will not secure another State in their march toward a manifest destiny. While he would prefer those loyal to the crown, he recognizes that a certain…variety of folk might be required for such a venture.
If you are brave enough, meet in the Free Port of New Orleans where both details and adventure await!
There are many options that I have provided for character creation but feel free to invent your own. I only provided a finite number of sub-plots hoping that your backstories will provide something more interesting for your character to do than chase gold.
I’ve left the world pretty open ended allowing for some light steampunk elements to come to play as well as some minor amount of magic. How much of each will actually come through in the story relies on what types of characters are submitted though.
I expect this to have a western feel but am flexible. I don’t hate humor but I’m not too keen on “Silly”. If you have the option, go darker instead of lighter with your descriptions.
As far as what I would like to see in character creation: Have a picture! Write something interesting but open ended enough to play with. I’ve also attempted to make sure everything can apply to each gender so have fun with that idea! I also intend to give appropriate assets to each character when we start, based on what you put in your backstory and what cards you pick. If you have something you want to try from Nature to Subplot, feel free to write it in. Above all, let’s have fun.
